Device-Specific Menus

Learn more about Device-Specific Menus, which allows you to load different devices with their own unique menu.

Device-Specific Menus

Device-Specific Menus does exactly what you’d expect. It gives you the option to load different iOS devices with different menus which you may have at your venue.

For example, a restaurant which is split into a bar area, and a food area, would find Device-Specific Menus very useful. Rather than crowding one extensive menu with various categories and items, this feature can segment menus, making them easier to digest and memorise for your serving staff.

It streamlines the serving process, meaning that those serving drinks at your bar will not have to scroll past Burgers, Pizzas and Salads to get to the Beers, Wines and Spirits categories, and vice versa.

The benefits of this feature aren’t only limited to restaurants, however. Event operators who run multiple stands or bars with overlapping menus will also find this feature beneficial, as all of the aforementioned stands and bars can now be managed on a single account.

In turn, this simplifies reporting. Instead of having to log into four separate accounts and manually add up sales figures, the event operator will only be required to log into one account, where sales stats for all four bars will be visible.

These are just a few of the many benefits of Device-Specific Menus. Below, we will walk you through setting this feature up for your Dines account.

How to Set Up Device-Specific Menus

Step One: The Dines Dashboard

To activate this feature, you’ll first need to head to your Dines Inventory. On the taskbar at the top of the page, you’ll see “Menus,” which is where we will store all of your created menus.

Note: By default, every device will have the items and categories that you see when you first click on Inventory (in the “Overview” section). You’ll need to assign menus to make full use of this feature.

Click on Menus, and then New Menu to make your first menu. Here, you will be given the option to Name your menu, Rank it (the higher number you input, the lower it will appear in your list of menus), and add a Description to easily identify what the menu contains.

Next, by clicking on Devices, you’ll have the option for assigning devices to the menu, providing you have already set up devices in Settings > Operations > Devices. If you haven’t, don’t worry! We’ll be going through how to assign menus to each iOS device very shortly in Part Two of this guide.

Finally, by clicking on Categories option, you can assign the Categories that are relevant to this menu. For example, if I am adding a Bar Menu, I would link all categories that contain beverages.

Once you have completed this, simply click “Save” at the bottom of the page, and you’re done with Step One! Now it’s time to jump onto Dines on your iOS device to assign this menu.

Step Two: The Dines App

Now that you’ve created your menu, it’s time to apply it on your device.

When you open the Dines app, head to the EPOS tab (at the bottom), and then tap on Functions (at the top). Once you’re here, scroll down to Customise Menu, and select Assign a Specific Menu

If you have followed Step One of this guide, you should now see a list of your menus, ready to tap and assign to this device. When you tap on one, and then navigate back to EPOS, you’ll see that your menu has been applied!

It’s as easy as that! Now that you have locked your menu onto this device, service will be suitably streamlined. If you ever wish to assign a different menu to your device, simply follow Step Two again. And if you’d like to remove the device-specific menu completely so that you can default back to the standard inventory, just turn off the Assign a Specific Menu toggle.

Happy Serving!
