Default Device Presets

Learn all about Default Device Presets in this article.

 Default Device Presets

Default Presets on Dines gives you preconfigured customisations tailored to your style of venue, whether you're operating a bar, running a street food stall, or providing table service.

In this guide, we will walk you through what each Default setting will look like for your venue. If you would like an in-depth guide on all individual Venue Settings, please follow this link

To access Default Device Presets on the Dines app, you can navigate to Functions > Device Setup > Default Device Settings.

Please note: These settings are device-specific, therefore will not automatically copy over to other devices for your venue. However, there is a quick and easy way to copy your settings over, which we will touch upon at the end of this article, or you can click here.

Bar

This preset is tailored specifically for Bar setups, where the EPOS device maintains a fixed position on a bar. For instance, if you usually keep your iPad on a stand and do not often remove it, this would be the recommended preset.

With this preset in place, bar staff can serve drinks and take payment easily.

The settings enabled in the Bar preset include;

  • Auto Reconnect: Automatically reconnects to the last card reader which was used by the device.
  • Instant Charge: Immediately begins a card charge after tapping “Pay Now” on the EPOS screen.
  • Close Search Automatically: Closes the “Search” function once you have found and actioned the desired item.
  • Quick Service Mode: Automatically marks Pay Now orders as “Ordered Away,” meaning that they are complete.
  • Saved Carts: When an employee signs out of a device and then signs back in later, their cart will be saved, so that they do not have to re-add items.
  • Split Payments: Provides two splitting options at checkout - “Split By Heads” for dividing orders into separate charges, and “Split By Items” for breaking down orders into individual items.

Note: You can use the “Auto-Select Location” feature to assign a Till Point or equivalent to each device. This can be found by navigating to Functions > Device Setup > Auto Select Location. Once activated, you will be prompted to select a Till Point for the device.

Street Food

The Street Food present is designed for uses such as Market Stall setups, Outdoor Events and Festivals. With this preset in place, you can confidently take rapid payments to help in dealing with busy periods.

The settings enabled in the Street Food preset include;

  • Automatically Select First Slot: Ensures that you do not need to select a Table/Location for an order, as Street Food usually involves
  • Split Payments: Provides two splitting options at checkout - “Split By Heads” for dividing orders into separate charges, and “Split By Items” for breaking down orders into individual items.

Note: It is recommended that you turn on the “Note Required on Order” feature to prompt capturing a customer’s name with every order. This feature can be enabled by navigating to Functions > Checkout Settings > Note Required on Order.

Table Service

Our Table Service preset is tailored for full-service hospitality, ideal for restaurants and seated venues where orders are sent to the kitchen or bar prior to settling bills.

The settings enabled in the Table Service preset include;

  • Auto Reconnect: Automatically reconnects to the last card reader which was used by the device.
  • Close Search Automatically: Closes the “Search” function once you have found and actioned the desired item.
  • Auto Send Session Order: This is automatically set as “Order Away,” meaning that orders are marked as complete once sent.
  • Saved Carts: When an employee signs out of a device and then signs back in later, their cart will be saved, so that they do not have to re-add items.
  • Table Service: This enables Table Service. A “Tables” button will appear at the top of your EPOS screen, which allows you view your Tables/Locations and begin sessions to take customer’s orders.
  • Multiple Head Discounts: Prompts a pop-up when applying a Discount on the Checkout screen, to ensure that Discounts are calculated per-person, as opposed to calculating from the overall value of the order.
  • Split-Payments: Provides two splitting options at checkout - “Split By Heads” for dividing orders into separate charges, and “Split By Items” for breaking down orders into individual items.

Note: If you are utilising the "Live Orders" Management screen or the KDS screen, we recommend configuring the "Auto-Send Table Service Orders" setting to your preference.

This setting can be altered at Functions > Checkout Settings > Auto-Send Table Service Orders. Here, you will see a drop-down, allowing you to Disable the feature, set all Session Orders as “Order Away,” or set all Session Orders as “Live Orders.”

Exporting and Importing Custom Settings to Other Devices

In Dines, it is possible to export your custom settings, saving you valuable time when configuring multiple devices.  Please note that if you are using any of the presets above (Bar / Street Food / Table Service), you do not need to export/import, as these presets are selectable on all devices running Dines.

To Export your settings, you will first need to choose a preset above, or configure your settings manually so that they are exactly to your liking. As always, if anything is unclear, we are always happy to help at care@dines.co.uk.

Once you have customised every setting to your preference, the hard part is over. Now all you need to do is head to Functions > Default Device Settings > Export Device Settings, and you will be greeted with a QR code.

This QR code can be easily scanned by another iOS device using the Dines app, as described below. Alternatively, you have the option to share this QR code through various methods, such as AirDrop, email, or saving it to your device for future use.

To Import Dines Settings from one device to another, you will of course need to complete the steps above for Exporting Settings.

Once this is done, open the Dines app on your iOS device, and navigate to Functions > Default Device Settings > Scan QR Code.

This will open your device's camera. You can use this camera to scan the QR Code given by the “Export Device Settings” option, which will then automatically load the settings onto your device. It’s as easy as that!
