Learn how to apply Discounts while using Dines EPOS
Discounts play an important role in attracting customers, boosting sales, as well as enhancing customer and employee satisfaction. Whether you run a targeted promotion or extend special offers like employee discounts, leveraging the power of Discounts can do a lot of good for your business.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of applying Discounts on Dines. Don't worry, it’s very straightforward!
Applying the Discount
To apply a Discount, you will first need to take a customer’s order on EPOS. Simply tap the items that the customer wishes to purchase, and then tap the green “Pay Now” button at the bottom of the page.
This will take you through to the payment screen. If you have “Instant Charge” enabled (typical if you are on-site at events or festivals), a prompt will be sent to your card reader to begin a charge.
However, to apply a Discount, you will need to briefly cancel this. This can be achieved by tapping the red “Cancel” button at the top right on EPOS, or pressing the “X” button at the bottom left of your card reader.
Now you will see a Checkout screen highlighting the cost of the customer’s order, as well as a few options. We’ll focus on the “Discount/Tab” option for now, and go into more detail on the rest at a later date.
When you tap on the “Discount/Tab” button, a list of all available Discounts will pop up. Discounts can range from percentage discounts (e.g., 10% off), to fixed amount discounts (e.g., £10 off), or even custom discounts (allowing you to type in a custom discount amount). Tapping the Discount which is relevant to your order will exit this screen, and apply the Discount.
Note: If your device is in Offline Mode, your Discounts will not be available. An active internet connection is required for looking up Discounts.
Once applied, you can see the effect of the Discount in the order summary.
To finalise the customer’s order, simply tap "Card" at the bottom to trigger the card reader, which will prompt it to prepare for the charge once again. After that, you're done!

Note: If you have selected the wrong Discount code, or wish to remove your currently selected Discount code, simply tap “Discount/Tab” once again, which will display a prompt giving you the option to do just that.
